Typically, my clients pay only their copay
(and deductible, if any)
at the time of each session.
(Oftentimes this information is found
on the insurance card under "specialist.")
I weekly file claims with their insurance company,
which then reimburses me
the balance of the allowed fee.
Typically the amount that insurance companies
authorize me to bill is significantly less than
my stated hourly fee ($140).
In no case is a client responsible for any amount beyond what their insurance carrier states is their responsibility (copay, coinsurance, or deductible).
I encourage my clients if there is any question
to contact their insurance carrier
before the time of our first session
so that we can have a clear financial understanding
from the beginning of our work together.
A limited sliding scale for self-pay clients
is negotiable under special circumstances.
